Support Ms. A: A Fundraising Initiative for a Survivor of Domestic Violence
At Shiv Associate, we believe no one should suffer in silence—especially not those who are already vulnerable because of their immigration status. Today, we share the story of Ms. A, an Indian national and a survivor of severe domestic violence, who now urgently needs our collective support.
Her Story
Ms. A came to the UK in September 2018 as a Tier 2 Skilled Worker Dependent. Like many spouses who arrive on dependent visas, she trusted her partner to guide the family’s immigration journey. Instead, she was subjected to emotional control, manipulation, and abuse.
In 2021, her husband—then her visa sponsor—forced her to remain in India for the entire year. This coercive act shattered her immigration continuity and prevented her from qualifying for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), a right she would have otherwise earned.
Although her husband later acquired settled status, he deliberately chose not to switch Ms. A to the “dependent of a settled person” category. She continued on the old dependent visa, leaving her immigration status fragile and her independence completely controlled by him.
When the domestic violence escalated, Ms. A bravely left home. With nowhere to go and no family support in the UK, she found a part-time job to survive. But now she faces a new challenge:
Without specialist legal help, she cannot apply for ILR or secure her long-term safety in the UK.
Why We Are Fundraising
Immigration cases involving domestic violence require expert representation from qualified solicitors and barristers. These legal services are costly, and Ms. A cannot afford them on her part-time income.
At Shiv Associate, we refuse to let her face this alone.
Through this fundraising campaign, we aim to raise enough funds for Ms. A to receive proper legal advice, prepare her ILR application under domestic violence provisions, and ensure she is treated fairly by the Home Office.
This initiative is also a broader awareness campaign for dependent visa holders—especially women—to help them understand: their rights under various visa categories, their protection under UK domestic violence policies, and the importance of maintaining their independent immigration pathways.
